Keystone Christian Academy - York
On January 11, 2013, after time of serious discussion about the need for a Christian school in York County that gives families more educational options, a group comprised of qualified administrators and teachers felt the Lord’s leading to proceed. Along the way, prayers were answered for a business manager, an attorney, and a developement officer. Doors were opened as we sought a location and
formed a board of education.
Our forms for incorporation were completed and submitted to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on February 20, 2013. They were accepted and returned to us on March 11, 2013.
We have seen the “mighty hand of God” repeatedly during our journey and look forward with great anticipation to His plans for us as we continue on the path.
The school will operate in York County. All teachers will be required to have a minimum of a four-year bachelor degree. The students will be required to meet the state mandated 900 hours for elementary (K through 6th grades) and 990 hours for secondary (7th and 8th grades) for full-time students. Part-time students will follow Pennsylvania homeschooling regulations. Keystone Christian Academy will follow all Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements for non-public schools.
Decisions regarding all aspects of the school align with Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) requirements. Our goal is to receive accreditation during the 2015-16 school year.
Five full-day option includes academics and electives. Child will be enrolled as a full-time student at KCA. ($6,750)
Four full-day option includes core academics and electives. Child will be given assignments by the teacher to complete at home on the fifth day. Student will be enrolled as a homeschool student and would need to be registered with his/her school district. ($6,000)
Four morning option includes academics only. Child will be given assignments by the teacher to complete at home on the fifth day. Student will be enrolled as a homeschool student and would need to be registered with his/her school district. ($4,000)
Four afternoon option includes electives only. Student will be enrolled as a homeschool student and would need to be registered with his/her school district. ($2,000)
Note: Friday mornings will be comprised of theme-based academics and chapel. The afternoons will include flextime (community service, open gym, themed activities). Four-day families may buy a punch card to enrich their program by adding a Friday activity.
KCA will align with Pennsylvania State Standards. Textbooks meet the needs of our students and may include secular texts.
KCA provides all students with an opportunity to grow and learn as children come from different backgrounds (socio-economic, race, religion). Families come with the understanding that we teach academics through solid biblical principles and their children will hear, read and learn the Word of God and learn the way He intended!
Part of the application will request that parents identify if their child has a special intellectual or physical need. Therefore, each student will be assessed based on his or her need and it will be determined if we are currently equipped to meet them. Keystone Christian administrators will prayerfully consider each applicant and discern our ability to meet their individual requirements. If we feel we are unable to meet that need, we reserve the option to decline acceptance as we will not put a child in a place where we feel he or she will not be successful.
In order to simplify dress code issues and allow our students to concentrate on learning we require our students to dress in a uniform dress standard. This includes khaki pants, shorts, jumpers, skirts with burgundy, yellow or white polo shirts with no writing.
Standardaized testing will be administered to students (grades 1-8) every spring. If parents are unable to provide recent testing for admission, this test will be administered for enrollment purposes.
For acceptance to kindergarten a child must be age five by October 1 and must be considered developmentally—socially, emotionally, physically and mentally—ready based on the Developmental Readiness Scale (DRS).
As we worked to purchase a building to open in August 2013, the Lord said wait. So, now we are open to see what He has next for us. We are aiming for a bulidng around 8,000 square feet to lease or buy. We remain flexible and are open to suggestions and leads of any sort.
Scholarships will be granted on a case-by-case basis and as funds are available. Requests will be made in the form of a letter stating circumstances. There will also be an application process to determine a family’s available resources.
Funding & Finances
Keystone Christian Academy will be funded by student tuition, corporate scholarships through Education Inprovement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) donations and modest parent-involved fund raising efforts. The majority of the financial gap will be through personal donations to the school.
We need your help!
Personal, tax-deductible donations are critical in the existence, quality and success of Keystone Christian Academy. We fully rely on donations to cover the gap between tuition and responsible spending. In order to provide a comfortable building, qualified teachers and solid learning materials, we need your financial support and the support of others in your sphere of influence.
We need families to chip in and volunteer where they can to help us avoid spending.
We need families to pay their tuition in a timely manner and be willing to make other sacrifices if necessary in order to do so.
We need families to be aware that although we will keep tuition as reasonable as possible, there will be a necessary increase each year to help with our increased costs.
We need your help. Please pray and plan how you can help.
